Drakonian

The Drakonian Dynasty takes inspiration from medieval knights, royalty, and Vikings. Their continent Drakonia is marked by the peaks of great keeps and castles, where dragons roam the skies, and great beasts traverse the plains and forests below. Their chosen element is Magma, which you can find in their native volcanoes and lava pits.

Summary

Encompassing green fields and lush forests, but also misty coasts and burning peaks, Drakonia is full of unique sights.
And while the green hills may be peaceful and inviting, a lone traveler should be prepared for the wrath of nature when braving the magma fields and the volatile slopes of the dark mountains.
But even on those sheer rock sides and dotted everywhere around the landscape, the towering castles of the Drakonians can be seen, catching the eyes from miles away.

Sentius roam this land, as diverse as the continents many biomes. They may be peaceful, defensive or even aggressive. A careful Sentinel should be aware of the local fauna and prepare adequately.

Sentius

The Drakonian military is proud of its raw power, ripping into enemies with unbridled rage until none may stand against them. Their enthusiastic infantry and heavily armoured knights
form the perfect backdrop for their berserkers driven by fury and flame, putting blazing fear into their opponents.
But while even fortified cities may fall under the battering of their siege engines, the weight of heavy armor and machinery makes the drakonian army a slow beast to move or react to sudden attacks.

The Drakonians are lively people, enjoying a good drink, but also willing to take in the  beauty of finely crafted stone or a magnificent stained glass window.
Blessed with wide open lands for farming and husbandry, their feasts are rich in grains, meats and other animal produce - and no good gathering can be complete without a plentiful helping of alcoholic beverages, as well as a masterful retelling of past legends recited in ballads and prose.

After birth, Kelpups are groomed by their mothers who will fluff out their fur until the Kelpups float on top of the water like buoyant rafts. Once their early coat grows out and they gain the sleek, insulating fur necessary to survive the water, they will start taking short swims and dives.
The biggest danger to newly born Kelpups are wandering Orcydros who will snatch the floating Kelpups if they are left alone too long.

Kelpup’s fluffy fur makes it float atop the surface, although it prefers to rest on its mother’s belly.


Once old enough, Ravans will start looking for a lifelong mate. Courtship between these sentius often includes astonishing feats of aerial acrobatics, and two Ravans who have found each other have often been seen locking talons mid flight in a show of trust and dexterity.
Highly intelligent, Ravans often accompany packs of Lupyres on their hunts, calling the predators to injured prey and in turn profiting from their leftovers.

Ravan

Surprisingly playful, Ravan sometimes plays catch-me-if-you-can with young Magpups.



Aeras attract potential mates with their beautiful singing, and once a pair has formed they will stay with each other for life, traveling together. They build their nests carefully from multiple layers, but hardly ever reuse a nest after their clutch has matured.
With their mediocre heat regulation, Aeras use their fluffed out plumage to create and capture warm air, and will tug their legs up periodically if they encounter sudden cold weather.

Aera

Despite its magma affinity, Aera will feel cold easily due to insufficient internal regulation.

Young Magmatos are born into a herd and travel with their family. They are able to walk shortly after birth, and while still young and clumsy, they will be sheltered from predators by the group. A Magmato’s first reaction to danger is to vanish into the middle of the herd.
Local legends claim that very rarely, a pure white Magmato calf may be born, and those who see it will be blessed by luck and find glory.

Magmato

Magmato will rather seek the protection of other herd members then directly engage an enemy.

Despite their comparatively small size, Coddish are one of the main hunters of the seas and a major thread to most smaller fish and crustaceans. While still young, Coddish hide from bigger predators by swimming in between corals and rocks, although they generally prefer open sandy areas.
Coddish can be found in schools traveling together from one food source to the next, with bigger Coddoras scouting for the group.

Coddish

Coddish is one of the most favored sentius along the drakonian coast – mainly as a food source.


Able to swim from the moment they are born, it still takes a few days for Seapups to become completely independent from their mother. Over time their insulating layer of fat and fur will grow out, allowing them to stay in the water for longer periods of time.
Seapups have long, movable whiskers growing out of their snout. These can detect vibrations in the water and can even be used to directly feel up their environment.

Seapup

A Seapup’s agile whiskers can inform them of prey through vibrations in the water.

There is a long history of domesticating Ashretts in the drakonian dynasty. In olden times, they have been used as hunting partners, since the Ashrett’s sleek body enables it to dive into burrows and smaller spaces to startle the hunted sentius and drive them towards the hunter.
Nowadays, they are mostly kept as pets or for entertainment in ferret raicing rings. Wild Ashretts living in the drakonian highlands defend themselves against predators with teeth, claws and a fiery whip of their tail.

Ashrett

Mostly domesticated, a wild Ashrett will defend itself with a lash of its flaming tail.

Fawsaughts will shed much of their fiery red fur over time by rubbing themselves against rough tree bark. A Stagma might follow the trail of fur and take it as an invitation to mate – Fawsaughts however are picky and will only accept the strongest males as partners.
Gentle but protective by nature, they often lead a big herd of younger Stagmas and Fawnras, earning them the title ‘Mother of the Forest’.

Fawsaught

Fawsaught knows the trails through the forest and leads its group unerringly to the best feeding spots.


Once they are old enough to head out with the pack, Lupyres will help in the hunt. Big groups may attempt to go after a Yacabur or Magmaton herd, flushing out the old or injured sentius in a cooperative effort. They are however wary of a Magmacano defending its group.
After staying with their family for a few years, most Lupyres will leave the territory to travel into new lands and establish their own pack together with others.

Lupyre

After leaving its family, Lupyre often travels long distances in search of its own territory.

While they are respected as superb hunters with an intelligence that rivals the human mind, most herders in the highlands of Drakonia have a few choice words to say about Direpyres going after their domesticated Sheeptras when wild prey is sparse.
With their heightened senses and dark fur color, Direpyres hunt preferably in the dark hours of the night, keeping to established trails intersecting with the routes of their prey.

Direpyre

Direpyre can sometimes be seen hunting accompanied by a Ravendos and sharing its kill.

Adult Kumma are solitary Sentius, travelling around in pursuit of better feeding spots in the Drakonian temperate forests. While they have a penchant for bee hives and their honey, they are generally omnivorous and even curious when given the chance to try new food.
Kumma gain a lot of weight over time and even show first signs of defensive armor plates, they are however still agile enough to scale tree trunks in pursuit of food.

Kumma

With a penchant for sweets, Kumma is always in search of new food.


Skomorits are strong and sturdy with long legs and claws that make them expert climbers. It is not unusual to find them scale vertical obstacles without difficulty or descend trees face first. Intelligent and agile, these sentius will never be caught helplessly waiting for rescue.
While they are often seen as companion sentius, Skomorits main purpose in human settlements is pest control by hunting rodents and keeping the food storage save from any unwanted intruders.

Skomorit

Despite its warm fur, Skomorit still enjoys a nap in the sun or in front of a lit fireplace.

Mihotomes live mostly solitary, defending a territory centered around an area abundant with prey. During mating time, temporary bonded pairs may live and hunt together in the same area, although these short time alliances break up swiftly after their pubs leave.
While Mihotomes are able to adapt to disturbed environments after a bush fire, they prefer healthy areas since they supplement their diet with fruits and vegetables on occasion.

Mihotome

Mihotome’s fluttering tail has sometime been mistaken for a starting fire on the highlands.

Dirmoles are born underground, in the extensive burrows their family has build over generations. These burrows may span a wide area, with several connected chambers and different exits to allow for concealment and safety when returning to the den. 
When leaving the burrow for the first time, they are at risk of being picked out by wild Aldors or Pantheas, for which the young Dirmoles are easy prey.

Dirmole 

Dirmole lives together with its family in large dens they excavated over several generations.

Brineals migrate seasonally from the colder coastlines to the heated waters near the magma lands. Since their natural insulation makes it hard for them to change temperatures easily, they sometimes throw layers of cold sand or heated ash on their back while resting.
They normally hunt solitary, but may form hunting groups to take advantage of big schools of fish passing by, herding and separating them in agile tactical maneuvers.

Brineal can rest just floating in the water, but will never completely fall asleep until safely on land.

After leaving the nest for the first time, Magulls will travel the seas independently – but they will always return to the nesting area they were born at. Large groups of Magulls and Albarrots converge at these spots each breeding season to court mates and give birth,
Their hooked beak make them effective fishers and scavengers. Their diet mainly consists of Coddish, however they are not above skimming above the waters to search for other dead sentius.

Magull

With a superb inner compass, Magull always finds its way back to where it was born.

Rockoons live in the grasslands and forests of the drakonian continent, scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits or hunting small prey and insects. The usually only emerge during twilight hours or night time, hiding in tree hollows and burrows during the day.
When threatened, Rockoons will scale any available vertical structure to flee. Their reversible hind paws allow them to climb down head first after the predator has left.

Rockoon 

Rockoon is a masterful climber, able to scale any vertical structure with ease.

Specially bred by the local drakonians for millennia, Tokis are loyal companions with a gentle but courageous nature. Found in almost all settlements, these enduring sentius often accompany children on their first adventures outside.
While not yet grown to their full size, Tokis do not get scared nor cowed easily. They will stand up against threats and faithfully guard their home and family.

Toki

Toki may seem fluffy and amiable, but is capable of astonishing acts of bravery if threatened.


With their dark plumage and eerie calls, Ravendos have become an ill omen in many rural drakonian villages. Their presence on hunting grounds and abandoned battlefields gave them an intimate connection with death, and some even see them as messangers from beyond.
Contradictory, Ravendos are highly loyal to their family, imitating a lost partner’s call to draw them back and defending their nest with finesse and savagery.

Ravendos

Ravendos is able to solve complex puzzles and will remember a helpful solution for years.

Feyretts are natural inhabitants of the drakonian forests and grasslands, living together in small groups that will defend their territory furiously against predators and other Feyretts. While very common, they have been hunted extensively in some areas due to their shiny reddish fur.
They are most active at dusk and dawn, sleeping away the rest of the day in their self build burrows. If startled, they will hiss and jump at the attacker to bite them.

Fyrett

Small but ferocious, Fyrett will defend its territory and burrow against any invaders.


Flamtrots have been domesticated for ages on the drakonian continent. However, most ranchers will keep their herds semi-feral or even leave them completely free range for generations, to allow their natural contact and absorption of the magma element.
In the wild, Flamtrot herds center around one dominant mare that will guide the group to the seasonal grazing spots, while the stallion of the herd protects them from the rear.

Flamtrot

Despite its look, a domesticated Flamtrot has a gentle temperament suited for a beast of burden.

Often terrorizing wide stretches of forest, a fully grown Maguma is no foe to joke about. Ambling peacefully along but equally able to reach astonishing galloping speed, these Sentius use their bellowing roar and size to intimidate their enemies and prey.
Maguma will hibernate in winter, hiding away in caves or hollow trees. They’ll require large quantities of food, heating the area around them through their glowing armour plates.

Hibernating in winter, Maguma requires large quantities of food to keep itself warm.

Once an Owlett grows up, it will head out to find its own territory and nest – often times taking over abandoned roosts of other birds or even nesting in human structures. As they are natural enemies to any [rodent – rat sentius?!] plagues, drakonian farming villages near the forests tend to build artificial roosting spots to invite Owlett populations.
Due to their almost silent flight and eerie cries, Owletts are however known as harbingers of bad luck or even messengers of death in some local folklore.

Owlett

While it can fly almost soundlessly, Owlett communicates with loud and eerie screams.

Aerlings are comparatively tiny sentius at home in the warmer woods near magma biomes. While their bright plumage makes them stand out in the trees, most predators have learned to be wary of this fiery prey. Owlthorns will sometimes still take young Aerlings by surprise.
They feed mostly on seeds and grains, but may partake in insects or even fruit if available. They avoid settlements widely and would never approach a freshly sown field, even if unattended.

Aerling

Aerling’s colorful plumage serves as a warning about its highly flammable outer feathers.

Correlating to their size, Voraks hatch from eggs far too big to be moved efficiently. Therefore pregnant Thracions spend considerable time finding the optimal cave roost with a direct connection to a volcano’s core, as the high temperatures are necessary to incubate the egg.
While freshly hatched Voraks are still able to walk upright on their two hind legs, with age the weight of their growing wings drags them down to a four-limbed gait.

Vorak

When hungry, Vorak articulates itself with loud roaring that sends most sentius scurrying away in panic.

Bred for their warm coat over generations, Sheeptra hardly resemble their wild cousins like the Woolocks any more. While they still retain their good hearing and are easily scared into fleeing, it is questionable if Sheeptras would survive long in the wild.
Farmers often employ [dog sentius] to herd Sheeptra from one pasture to the next by scaring them into one moving flock, rotating their feeding area to avoid overgrazing.

Sheeptra

Sheeptra’s fleece is so warm and weighty that it would actually suffer in summer if left unshorn.

Stagmas can heat up their antlers until they glow white hot, impaling and burning any attacker. Due to their high temperature conductivity and natural beauty, Stagmas’ antlers are highly sought after as medicine and building material.
In the mating season, Stagmas often compete against each other in vicious and even deadly fights, defending their territory and trying to impress wandering Fawsaughts

Stagma

Stagma meet during the rut to compete with other males for dominance... 

With their keen sense of hearing and heat perception, Thracions are the unrivaled apex predators of the magma lands. They prefer to hunt during dusk or in the regular ash storms, using the low visibility to hide the encroaching shadow of their wings from their prey.
The mistaken belief Thracions were hoarders of gold likely originated from an individual attacking a newly build palace due to the irritating light fracture from its stained-glass windows.

Thracion

Thracion was long thought to be the actual origin of the dragon legends circulating through Drakonia.


Sure-footed and blessed with astonishing jumping strength, Woolocks are at home even on the high slopes of the drakonian mountains. They may lead their herds down to the lower slopes depending on the season, although their own thick coat makes them almost immune against the cold.
They are known to butt attackers straight off the face of a cliff, and local folklore praises them as a symbol of leadership and bravery.

Woolock

With its keen senses, Woolock keeps watch over its flock and defends the other Lamrocks and Ramoracks from danger.

With a remarkable adaptability, Pantheas spread far and wide throughout all biomes on the drakonian continent. While they are able to survive in almost all natural habitats, they normally avoid human settlements and interactions.
Pantheas rely on a steady diet of meat, however they may yield their catch to stronger predators or packs of Lypires, since they travel alone and seldom risk unfavorable fights.

If cornered, Panthea will rather yield its prey to the attacker than risk an unfavorable fight.

Banditerra likes living near human settlements and isn’t to shy to break into their food storage.

Banditerra

Almost comically human, Banditerras have been mistaken for very small, childlike figures in the dark. Their nimble front paws allow them to inspect items and open even complex locks, and it is not unusual to find one standing in your pantry in the middle of the night.
Despite their facial bandit mask and thieving behavior, the locals generally view them only as annoying but harmless tricksters without any real malevolence. 

Accompanied by their nomadic herders, Yacabur groups travel freely on the drakonian highlands all year round. When left to their own devices, they will form large herds comprised of mostly female Yacaburs and young Yakkirs, whilst the males separate in smaller groups.
Apart from their milk, fur and meat, Yacaburs are often kept as beasts of burden as well. Gentle and patient, they seldom get aggressive unless with calf or in the middle of the mating season.
